These products are elaborated in a little town called Cochas which is located in Huancayo-Junin in the central part of Per
The instrument used to elaborate this type of handicraft is the "burin" and the tecnique is called "burilado"
The artisans made the scarved mates with diferent designs.
Two centuries before the appearance of Christ in the West, the carved gourd was used by pre Hispanic cultures in the North coast of Peru. They were used so much with utilitarian aims as ceremonial, of course, that these varied according to the time and the traditions.
Today, the craftsmen of the central part of Peru, manufacture this products utilize ancestral skills with combination with present day decoration trend.
